All Quiet on the West Coast Front

No baby yet. She's now five or six days overdue (the doctor gave us two different due dates). We did see the nurse-practitioner (hereafter, "NP") on Wednesday. She told us that--unlike the previous week--at least there's been a beginning of cervical opening (only 1 cm, though).

We asked the NP what she thought about she thought about induction. She agreed with our sense that it's best to let Mother Nature do her thing if at all possible. She noted that because due dates are less of a science than an art, we're not even necessarily overdue yet, and premature induction could end up with difficulties, even culminating in an emergency C-section.

SiliMommy's mother is going to extend her stay by one week. She was supposed to leave on Monday, 1/15; she's pushing that out, now, to the 23rd.

Her stay will therefore overlap with my father's. He's due out here on 1/17, returning to the East Coast on the 24th. And, of course, the doula will be coming during that time, as well. Our very small home will be packed to the gills with people! (At least my Dad is staying in a hotel, though.)

Oh, and if that isn't all nutty enough, I'm supposed to report for jury duty on 1/22. I've already postponed once, due to when I broke my ankle in October. They don't, I hear, give second postponements.

Meanwhile, I've still got a bunch of work I've got to try to finish before SiliBaby arrives, so I'd be pretty happy if she could hold off on arriving until Monday (the 15th) or so.

She and I are both feeling a sense of anticlimax at this point...we're both suddenly almost disbelieving that there's going to be a baby. I suspect that this may be a sort of normal feeling, since we arrived at it independently of one another. (The conversation was one of those...Me: "I feel such-and-such a way." Her: "Hey--me, too!")

No decision on a name yet...At one point, I thought I'd hit a winner, but SiliMommy objected strenuously, and I, too, changed my mind...

In still other news, SiliMommy's very fancy glider (my mommy gift to her) is slated to arrive tomorrow.

Second Coming; Extra Innings!

SiliBaby was due on Sunday or yesterday. She is not yet here, however. SiliMommy says that she (the baby) is exceptionally active lately, if only at night. My hypothesis is that of course she's very active now: she must be very busy getting ready to move. Moving is always hectic, and I'm sure she's got a lot of packing and cleaning to do! :-)

So, we're now into extra innings. We have a doctor's (or nurse-practitioner's) appointment today, so I guess we'll discuss then where to go from here.

In other exciting news, Obaa-san (Japanese grandmother) arrived from Tokyo yesterday morning for her second visit to the United States. She's only been here a day, so far, but seems reasonably comfortable. She's only in town 'til next Monday, though, for a total of six days here. If the baby fails to make her appearance while Obaa-san is here, that would be a shame and also a waste! So, hopefully, SB's gonna start to get a move on. My father suggested that we consider inducing, but we're reluctant to buck Mother Nature just for the sake of scheduling convenience.

Likely, Obaa-san's arrival from Japan marks the last time SiliMommy and I will be the only two occupants of our home. (Assuming the baby does come during her stay...)

More news on this exciting story as it develops!
